ACCESSIBLE BATHROOM NEARS COMPLETION

Work is well underway on our new accessible bathroom facility. The Welshmans Reef Water Sports Club Committee of Management was thrilled to secure a Community Grant of $3000 from Mount Alexander Shire Council to assist us with this important project.
We have elected to sacrifice half of the former ‘Smurf’ Amenities block laundry to create the new bathroom to support members and guests with disabilities and also provide a family-friendly space including a children’s change table.
We would like to acknowledge our assistant secretary Anthea Knight for her work applying for the successful grant, our builder Matthew Wardley for installing the internal wall, new roofing and new window; Brock for his incredible plumbing work; Daryl Willoughby for the concreting work; local contractor David Bretherton for his wonderful efforts with the plastering and tiling and members and electricians Brian and Corey Murphy of Murphy and Son Electrical for their work on the electric fittings and lighting etc. A big shout out to our president Renee Whatley and vice president Cameron Griffiths for their work sourcing the contractors and seeing the long-awaited project become a reality. It really has been a terrific collaborative effort and we can’t wait to see it officially completed. It will be wonderful for all our members and guests to feel catered for and is a long overdue project we can be extremely proud of.

EASTER BUNNY TO HOP IN!
March 31, 2023
Dear Members and Guests,
Our Social Club once again has some great activities in store over the Easter Weekend including a colouring competition for the kids and a visit from the Easter Bunny at 11am Easter Sunday. Please see the flyer attached.

We are also expecting our annual visit from our friends at the Newstead CFA collecting for the Royal Children's Hospital Appeal on Good Friday so be sure to have some change handy and show your support for this fantastic cause.

Members are asked to note that works will be undertaken this weekend to remove the playground to make way for the new playground which is scheduled to be installed on Monday April 17.
We ask that you keep the kids away from the site while these works take place.
Apologies that play equipment will not be available over the Easter period but this was just how the timeframes worked out. We are sure there is still plenty of fun to be had fishing, boating, bike riding and joining in the Easter activities.
We wish everyone a safe and happy Easter break,
Kind Regards

PARK TO REOPEN TO REGIONAL MEMBERS AND GUESTS TOMORROW
September 9, 2021
Dear Members and Guests,

As you will be aware the state government has announced that lockdown restrictions are easing in regional Victoria, except for those in the Shepparton LGA, from 11.59pm this evening (Thursday, September 9) therefore the park will reopening to our regional members and guests from tomorrow, Friday September 10.
As an accommodation provider we can welcome regional members and bookings from single households from regional Victoria (except for Shepparton) along with intimate partners and social bubbles associated with that booking. We understand that there will be a requirement for park operators to check identification to ensure that guests are from permitted areas of regional Victoria.
Visitors to the home are not permitted, except for intimate partners or single bubble. This applies to all site tenants holders and guests in caravan parks.

Outdoor gathering limits are permitted for up to 10 people, and infants under 12 months are not included in that cap.

Masks remain mandatory indoors and outdoors except if at home (or your caravan) or when visiting an intimate partner’s place of residence, or if an exception applies.

We look forward to welcoming back our regional members tomorrow and hope to welcome back our Melbourne members soon.

Kind Regards

Committee of Management
Welshman's Reef Water Sports Club Inc.

PARK CLOSED
Saturday, August 21, 2021
Dear Members and Guests,

As you would be aware the Victorian Government has announced that all of regional Victoria would be locked down from 1pm today until at least 11.59pm on Thursday September 2.  The government's decision follows a surge of new cases of the COVID-19 Delta variant, along with exposure sites outside of metropolitan Melbourne and an outbreak in Shepparton.
The government has advised that the restrictions for regional Victoria will be the same as those which are currently in operation in Melbourne except for the nighttime curfew. Additional restrictions have also been announced for all of Victoria, including a 25 per cent workforce limit for construction, limits on high risk industries and the closure of childcare facilities.

Of course this means that regional Victorian caravan parks must close and our park closed again as of 1pm today.

Guests with a permitted purpose or already on site before 1pm were permitted to stay.

We apologise to members for having to close the park again but the situation is beyond our control.

Our thoughts are with all our members at this difficult time and we hope we can welcome everyone back very soon.

Stay Safe.

Kind Regards

Committee of Management
Welshman's Reef Water Sports Club Inc.

The five reasons to leave home no longer apply and there will be no limit on the distance people in regional Victoria can travel from home.
Visitors to your van are not permitted, except for intimate partners or single bubble.

Outdoor gathering limits are permitted for up to 10 people, and infants under 12 months are not included in that cap.

Masks remain mandatory indoors and outdoors, except in your van.

We look forward to welcoming back our regional members. Our thoughts are with our Greater Melbourne members. We hope numbers continue to decrease and we can also welcome you all back to the park very soon

PARK CLOSED, AGAIN
Thursday, August 5, 2021

Dear Members and Guests,

In response to a new outbreak COVID19, the Victorian Government has just announced a new seven day lockdown for the entire state from 8pm tonight.
Accommodation providers, including caravan parks, must close at that time and not re-open until 8pm next Thursday August 12. Stays are not permitted unless it's for a permitted purpose.
Travel around the state is not permitted. Everyone must stay within five kilometres of their principal place of residence.

Dear Members & Guests,

As you would be aware in response to a further outbreak of COVID19, the Victorian Government has just announced a five-day lockdown for the entire state from 11.59pm tonight. There are 18 known cases of COVID19 in the state.
Accommodation providers, including caravan parks, must close and not re-open until 11.59pm Tuesday 20 July 2021. The park is now closed.

Travel around the state is not permitted. Everyone must stay within five kilometres of their principal place of residence.

To receive a COVID19 vaccination

PARK REOPENED
Friday, June 4 2021

Dear Members, Casual Campers and Guests.

We would like to advise that in line with the easing of state government covid-19 restrictions in regional Victoria the park has reopened to regional members and casual campers.

Unfortunately we are not allowed to welcome members and guests who are from Greater Melbourne or need to travel through Greater Melbourne to access the park.

Sadly, irrespective of whether the extended lockdown for Melbourne ends on June 10, Acting Premier Merlino has advised that Melburnians will not be allowed to travel to regional Victoria during the Queen’s birthday long weekend as “the risk of exporting this virus is just too high.”

We have limited bookings for regional campers on the long weekend in order to fulfil covid requirements.

It is our understanding the same rules apply to regional members and campers as at home. Guests and visitors are not permitted in your van at this stage. Only immediate family groups or intimate partner/single bubble. Masks are required to be worn inside club facilities and when social distancing cannot take place. Outdoor gathering limits can occur with up to 10 people.

Our thoughts are with our Melbourne members during this very challenging time. Please take care and stay safe and we hope to see you all back at the park very soon.

Kind Regards

Committee of Management
Welshman's Reef Water Sports Club Inc.
PARK TO CLOSE
May 27, 2021
Dear Members, Casual Campers and Guests,
As you would be aware the Victorian government has just announced a seven-day “circuit breaker” lockdown of the entire state from 11.59pm tonight, May 27. This means accommodation providers, including caravan parks, must close and not re-open until 11.59pm Thursday June 3. We will move to close the park this afternoon and apologise to any members and campers who had planned to visit us this weekend.
Travel around the state is not permitted. Everyone must stay within five kilometres from their principal place of residence other than for the following five reasons:
- Shopping for necessary goods and services (one person in the household per day).
- Care-giving, compassionate or medical reasons.
- Authorised work or education.
- Exercise (with a maximum of one other person for no more than two hours).
- To receive a COVID-19 vaccination.
We also cannot take bookings for stays during this lockdown unless it’s for a permitted purpose.
Thanks for your understanding. We hope you and your families stay safe during this period and look forward to welcoming everyone back to the park when the lockdown ends.
Kind Regards
Committee of Management
Welshman's Reef Water Sports Club Inc.

NEW COMMITTEE APPOINTED
March 5, 2021
Dear Members, Associative Members and Guests,
As you will be aware we held our Annual General Meeting last Saturday, February 27, 2021.
The meeting was chaired by Steve Bartlett the president of the Victorian Caravan Parks Association and heard the reports of the last 12 months.

The meeting also considered the adoption of our revised Park Rules and saw the election of a new Committee of Management. The day was capped off with a barbecue to welcome new members and Caretakers Karen and Allan Doolan.
The rules were not passed and these will be revised by the new committee and reconsidered at the next AGM.
The new Committee of Management includes:
President - Renee Whatley
Vice President - Cameron Griffiths
Treasurer - Derek Henry
Secretary - Lisa Dennis
Assistant Secretary - Anthea Knight
General Committee Members - Lisa Watts, Chris Walker, Dawn Novak and Lynal Bastin.
Thanks to all those who attended the AGM and all those who put their hand up to fill a role on the committee. We look forward to another successful 12 months where we can complete our sewerage works and begin to look at other necessary upgrades in the park.

AGM CONFIRMATION
Dear Members,

We have registered the event with the state government and confirmed with the Mount Alexander Shire Council that we can proceed. All members are asked to stop at the kiosk and sign in using the Covid Guest Declaration Form so we know who is in attendance and for covid tracing purposes.

· Each attendee is asked to do a symptom self-assessment prior to leaving home and not attend if they are unwell or have been instructed to isolate or quarantine.
· Attendees must maintain at least 1.5m physical distance between those from other groups at all times.
· To minimise movement, attendees must stay within their allocated spaces or seats where practical.

The Premier announced some modified state-wide restrictions from 11.59 tonight until at least 26 February 2021 that are relevant to our operations as follows:
Private gatherings ie visitors to a site are limited to five people per day from any number of households.
Public gatherings are limited to 20 people outdoors. Infants are not included in the cap.
Masks are required indoors (in amenities and the kiosk) and outdoors where people cannot socially distance.

We are hopeful that public gathering restrictions will enable us to still go ahead with our AGM on Saturday February 27 but we will keep you posted.

PARK CLOSURE
 SNAP STAGE 4 LOCKDOWN
February 12, 2021
Dear Members, Associate Members, Casual Campers and Guests,
As you have no doubt heard Victoria is moving into a snap Stage 4 Lockdown from 11.59pm tonight Friday February 12 until 11.59pm Wednesday, February 17. As part of the lockdown accommodation facilities must close.
As a result our park will once again be forced to close from midnight tonight.
We apologise for any inconvenience but any members or guests who are currently staying at the park will be required to return home before midnight tonight.
All Victorians will once again only be able to leave their homes for the four essential reasons including: shopping for essential goods; work or education if it cannot be done from home; medical appointments; or exercise for two hours a day with an intimate partner or one other person. We understand Victorians will not be permitted to travel outside a five kilometre radius of their homes and private and public gatherings are not permitted.
As per the previous lockdowns only contractors staying and working in the region or interstate travellers without alternative accommodation options will be permitted to stay at the park for the duration.
We hope the short sharp lockdown will be effective in containing the latest Covid-19 UK-strain outbreak and we can reopen to members, associate members, casual campers and guests asap.
Thanks for your understanding and support.
Take care of you and yours.
Kind Regards

MERRY CHRISTMAS
& A HAPPY NEW YEAR

December 23, 2020

Dear Members, Associate Members, Guests and Casual Campers,

We would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a safe and happy New Year. Let's hope 2021 is a better one!
With the easing of restrictions in recent weeks we are happy for members to welcome family and friends to the park over the festive season and summer holidays. We continue to limit casual campers to ensure we are not overloading our amenities during this peak time, but look forward to welcoming back more of our regulars and casual camping travellers when it is safe to do so.

Please note it is essential that all annual and associate members, overnight guests and visitors stop at the office and fill in the 'Guest Declaration Form' for covid tracing purposes, particularly in light of the current situation in New South Wales. Overnight guests are also required to pay $15.
Members are not permitted to have undisclosed visitors as we must know who is in the park for contact tracing and fire safety.
If you have visited the NSW hot spot please do not attend at the park unless you have had a negative covid test result. Please don't put others at risk.
Unfortunately we are unable to utilise a QR code system due to the poor phone service at the park and we will have to continue with manual paperwork.

The office is open 10am to 5pm Mon-Thurs, 10am-8pm Fri and 10-5pm Sat and Sun.
Members are asked to let Sarah know when they check out so we can put the time on their form and re-lock their code until their next visit.

With the easing of restrictions face masks are no longer required outside or in the amenities but we do ask that you wear a mask when visiting the kiosk to sign in and purchase items or when social distancing is impossible. We also ask that you continue to social distance in our amenities - with two people permitted in each toilet block at one time.

Our planned sewerage works will commence after Christmas. This will involve the installation of a new tank in the first pond, a truck pad and dump point near the ponds at the entrance to the park. The works should cause minimal disruption to members and guests. We apologise for any inconvenience but these works are essential as part of our lease agreement with Goulburn Murray Water.

Thanks for all your support in 2020. Have a wonderful summer and stay safe.
Best wishes

Committee of Management

SNAKE WARNING
With recent Spring rain the lake continues to rise and is currently at 49.9%.
However, as the water levels rise snakes which may have lay dormant are also on the move.
We had a snake spotted in the vicinity of our casual campsites and Smurf amenities block last weekend so please be cautious, keep an eye out and be mindful of children and pets.
Please try to avoid having wood piles or materials stacked around your van that could provide a haven.

PARK UPDATE October 9, 2020
BOOKINGS AT CAPACITY

Casual campers are advised that we are currently at capacity for bookings for the Melbourne Cup long weekend, Christmas and New Year's Eve and the Australia Day long weekend at this stage in line with Covid-19 requirements. We apologise for any inconvenience.

We hope to open up more sites if restrictions allow in the coming weeks. Stay tuned for updates.
 PARK RE-OPENS FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 18 at 9am

Dear Members, Associate Members and Guests,
Sorry for the delay but we are pleased to advise that the park will reopen to members, associate members and limited guests from Regional Victoria tomorrow, Friday September 18 at 9am.

We will be offering late check in until 8pm on Friday evenings as requested for those travelling after work or long distances. Check in Saturday to Thursday will be between 10am-5pm.

It has taken some time to establish what was required for reopening but we are advised that we are permitted to open to regional members and guests from within regional Victoria along the following guidelines:
Open, but each group booking is restricted to:
• Members of the public who have the same principal place of residence; OR
• Members of the public who are in an intimate personal relationship; OR
• Members of the public who have the same principal place of residence and no more than 5 other members of the public who have the same principal place of residence and are part of a nominated 'household bubble', AND
 • Only members of the public whose principal place of residence is outside the Restricted Area (Metropolitan Melbourne); AND
 • Members of separately booked groups do not share bedrooms at the facility.

We will work under the same guidelines as last time we reopened. We ask members to stop at the kiosk to check in and fill in their Covid-19 Guest Declaration Form. We will then unlock your code.
We ask that you let us know when you check out so we can note the date you left on your paperwork and relock your code until your next visit.

Members can gather in groups of up to 10 outside but can only be in household groups or 'bubbles' inside their vans. Members are asked to wear face masks when outside their vans and when they use the amenities.

Please use the hand sanitiser provided when entering and exiting the kiosk and amenities and observe social distancing requirements.

We look forward to welcoming our regional members back to the park and some limited guests and hope we can welcome our Melbourne members in the near future.

Stay safe and healthy everyone.

Kind Regards

PARK CLOSED - AGAIN

August 6, 2020
Dear Members, Visitors and Guests

Unfortunately, Vic Parks has advised us this morning that the state government's latest Restricted Activity Directions covering accommodation facilities - including caravan parks and camping grounds - state that all caravan parks and camping grounds must now be closed.

Under Stage 3 restrictions we can offer accommodation under a number of special circumstances. Unfortunately, none of these apply to annuals.

These Directions apply until 11.59pm on Sunday August 16.

We apologise to members that we have once again been forced to close the park and for the short notice of this latest announcement. It is completely out of our control.
We will keep you updated with any further developments.
We hope everyone stays safe and well and we look forward to welcoming you all back to the park as soon as possible.

Kind Regards

PARK UPDATE JULY 12, 2020

Test and Tag
Park members Lynal and Leonie Bastin of Spa Country Electrical have agreed to undertake the Test and Tag of all vans in the park once again. This was scheduled to take place on Tuesday, July 21. The Committee of Management has decided the costs for this will be absorbed this year. We aim to have all vans completed at the same time to ensure the park is compliant. If there are any issues with the testing of your van we will contact you.

Site Fees
The Committee of Management have decided to offer all members a $200 discount on our 2020-2021 annual site fees in recognition of the impacts of Covid-19 which forced the closure of the park and may also have impacted park members financially at this challenging time. Invoices for the 2020-2021 financial year will be issued once paperwork has been received.

Park Upgrades
Members who have had the opportunity to visit the park in recent weeks will have noted the tiling and flooring upgrades to the 'Smurf' block. We thank all those who contributed to the upgrades including Cameron Griffiths who managed the project, Simone McKinlay and Robbie McKinlay who organised the new tiles and Mike Petts who generously crafted and installed our fantastic new benchtops. Thanks also to tradesman Jamie Daniel for his hours of work preparing, plumbing and retiling the showers, rehanging the doors etc and local business SPG Concrete Resurfacing for the work to revamp the flooring. If you haven't had a chance to get to the park you can see a couple of pictures attached. The toilet doors have also been rehung so they swing outwards. We aim to complete the painting of the block asap.
Goulburn Murray Water has requested some more data related to water usage and readings taken at the park over the summer. Once this is received we are hopeful we can finalise plans for stage two of the sewerage upgrade works and complete that phase of our redevelopment.

Grant application
At the encouragement of Bendigo West MP Maree Edwards the Committee of Management recently made a grant application to Mount Alexander Shire Council regarding potential upgrades at the as part of the Community Sports Infrastructure Stimulus Program.
The package included information about potential upgrades to the Fisherman's Toilet Block, the inclusion of a Disabled Bathroom in the Smurf Toilet Block, solar lights throughout the park to improve lighting and safety at night, shade sails at the play ground and outside the kiosk and potential upgrades to the play equipment and basketball court.
Thanks to Committee Member Simone McKinlay for her tireless efforts compiling the application.
Unfortunately, the park was not successful on this occasion but we aim to meet with council shortly to look at strengthening our relationship and working on building support for potential future projects at the park.

Covid Compliance
Thanks for Caretaker Sarah for putting the steps in place to ensure we were ready to reopen and Covid-19 compliant. Thanks to all our members for abiding by the measures put in place including: filling in the Guest Declaration Form for contact tracing, temperature testing, and maintaining safe social distancing and hygiene practices.
Just a reminder that the park is open to Members Only at this stage as we are not permitted to allow guests to use the communal amenities at this time.
Our thoughts go out to members in Melbourne and the Mitchell Shire who are presently in lockdown. We wish you and your families good health and look forward to seeing you back at the park very soon.

Meetings
The Committee of Management is continuing to meet online at this stage, with several committee members now in lockdown. We will keep members informed of any updates and once we have set dates for our planned Q & A session and Annual General Meeting. Both of these events will be determined based on Covid-19 developments.

PARK UPDATE JUNE 27, 2020

Dear Members, Casual Campers and Visitors,

We are thrilled to announce our park reopened to members yesterday, June 26 after the upgrades to our second toilet block were completed.

Thanks to everyone for their understanding and cooperation during yesterday’s reopening.

Just a reminder that we are open to 'members only' at this stage. Unfortunately we are unable to welcome friends, family and guests as this time as casual campers are not permitted to use the communal amenities due to the current restrictions.

Please note office hours are 9am to 5pm for arrivals to complete your paperwork and unlock your code. We need to allow Sarah time to clean the amenities before and after these times.

Powercor has advised us they will be undertaking a power pole replacement at the park on Thursday, July 9. Annuals are advised the power will be switched off on this day so if you are visiting the park please be prepared for this and please make sure fridges/freezers are empty.

VicParks has advised that caravan parks are now also being encouraged to undertake temperature checks as members arrive.
The Victorian government announced on Friday afternoon, June 26 that caravan parks with communal facilities who are expecting an increase in school holiday visitation will receive priority access to thermometers to undertake guest health checks.
VicParks understands that the thermometers will start arriving at councils Saturday for immediate on-forwarding to parks.
We are strongly encouraged to take members' temperatures at check-in to be assured that members are not presenting with a fever - one of the symptoms of coronavirus.
The key information is that if a member's temperature is above 37.5C they are considered to have a fever.
However, because environmental conditions, exercise and sun exposure can raise the temperature of the forehead above the body’s core temperature, a second test is required where a recording of over 37.5C is detected. In that case, we would ask you to rest indoors for at least 15 minutes before doing a follow up check to confirm that their temperature is still above 37.5C. We are obliged to request members presenting with a temperature of over 37.5C to return home.
The Victorian Chief Health Officer has advised Victorians that they may travel within the state these school holidays, as long as they are healthy.

Anyone presenting with symptoms of coronavirus, even if they are mild, must stay home and get tested. However, the Federal Chief Health Minister Brendan Murphy says community members who live in a 'hot spot' are encouraged not to visit regional Victoria or travel interstate. If this impacts you please think of your fellow members and the local communities and please avoid visiting the park and putting others at potential risk.
At the end of the day the onus is on each and every individual. If you are unwell please do not put others at risk.

We hope members staying at the park are enjoying the revamped ‘Smurf’ amenities and thanks all those who contributed to the upgrades including Cameron Griffiths who managed the project, Simone McKinlay and Robbie McKinlay who organised the new tiles and Mike Petts who generously crafted and installed our fantastic new benchtops. Thanks also to tradesman Jamie Daniel for his hours of work preparing, plumbing and retiling the showers, rehanging the doors etc and local business SPG Concrete Resurfacing for the work to revamp the flooring.
We think you’ll agree the final result is a huge improvement. We may need to rename this block 'Taj Mahal Mark 2'!

We hope everyone enjoys a chilly but sunny return to Welshies.

Kind Regards

PARK UPDATE JUNE 4, 2020
Dear Members, Casual Campers and Visitors,
The Committee of Management met last night and after careful consideration we have decided to postpone the reopening of the park until we are able to have the two toilet blocks up and running.
We know some members were hopeful of returning to the park for the long weekend. However, we feel we have a duty of care to our members and we have to put safety first and having only one toilet block available would place members at too high a risk of potential exposure.
We are working hard to have the refurbishments completed as soon as possible and aim to be able to reopen the park in time for the upcoming school holidays.
This will also give us time to get all the requirements in place to ensure we are compliant. Organisations and businesses which fail to be compliant can face fines of up to $10,000.
We are hopeful that restrictions may also be eased further by this time which may also enable us to provide access to showers etc.
Thanks for your understanding.
Kind Regards
Committee of Management
Welshman's Reef Water Sports Club Inc.

PARK UPDATE MAY 31, 2020

Dear Members, Casual Campers and Visitors,
We have had lots of enquiries today about the reopening of the park.
Unfortunately the park will not be reopening tomorrow.
We have clarified that we do have permission from VicParks, Mount Alexander Shire Council and Goulburn Murray Water to reopen the park with the use of toilets only (not showers and laundries).
However, it is not as straightforward as just opening the gate. They require us to lodge some paperwork and put in place a number of procedures and processes etc which we are working through at the moment. If we do not have everything required in place before we open this could expose the park to large fines.
When we do reopen all members that choose to visit will have to stop in at the kiosk to fill in a COVID-19 Guest Declaration Form which will ask about members screening details, travel, health etc and will be kept on record for Coronavirus tracing requirements.
The committee also has some concerns about reopening the park for the long weekend as we currently only have one toilet block available for use as renovation work is well underway on the 'Smurf' toilet block to retile the showers and reseal the floors so this block is out of commission at the moment.
We are concerned this could expose members to increased risk with a larger volume of members using the single toilet block.
We will be meeting in the next couple of days to make a decision about how to proceed and will advise you of our decision asap.
Thanks for your patience and understanding during this challenging time.
Kind Regards

Committee of Management
Welshman's Reef Water Sports Club Inc.

PARK UPDATE MAY 27, 2020
Dear Members, Casual Campers and Visitors
Most of you will have heard the news that caravan parks will be permitted to undertake a conditional re-opening from next Monday June 1.
During this first stage of re-opening, communal facilities such as toilets, laundries and playgrounds etc are to remain closed.  This will mean caravan parks with onsite cabins with personal toilet and shower facilities or ensuite facilities will be able to reopen but many parks will not.
The Committee of Management has discussed this possibility of reopening our park but unfortunately without access to the amenities we feel it is impossible to reopen the park to members.
While a few may have access to portaloo facilities we do not have a dedicated dump point in the park. We also don't think its fair if some members can enjoy the park, whilst others can't.
Therefore we have decided that the park will remain closed to members and guests until such time as our amenities can safely re-open.
We will continue to closely monitor the staged reopening of caravan parks and will keep you informed along the way.
While the park remains closed members can now gain access to their vans if they require any personal items.
Please phone ahead or call in and see our Caretaker Sarah if you need to visit the park to collect something as she will need to unlock your code.
Thanks for your patience and understanding during these unprecedented and challenging times for us all.
As fellow members we are just as keen as everyone else to get back to 'Welshies' and we look forward to seeing everyone out there again soon.
Kind Regards
Committee of Management
Welshman's Reef Water Sports Club Inc.

PARK UPDATE MAY 15, 2020
Dear Members, Casual Campers and Visitors,

We hope this email finds everyone healthy and well. We just wanted to touch base and update you about what’s been happening at the park.

As you are aware on Monday, May 11 some social restrictions were eased by the Victorian government, VicParks has confirmed that there was no change to the status of caravan parks. Caravan parks remain closed with the exception of providing accommodation to a prescribed range of persons under clause 11 of the Deputy Chief Health Officer’s Restricted Activity Directions of 11 May.

VicParks has advised us allowing Annuals or tourists access to access our park would breach these directions. This means we are still unable to allow an annual to use their van for an overnight stay, or to maintain their dwelling and unfortunately we may not facilitate a prospective purchaser being shown an annual’s van. Similarly, tourists are unable to make bookings.

However, with things tracking well with regards to the control of Coronavirus across the state we hope we will be able to safely reopen the park in the not too distant future.

In the meantime the Committee of Management and Caretaker Sarah Brandoff have been working behind the scenes to keep the park in order and keep upgrades ticking along. Work has begun to upgrade tiling in the ‘Smurf’ toilet block showers and we are looking at quotes to resurface the floors.

Meter readings from the toilet blocks to the ponds have also been forwarded to Goulburn Murray Water and we look forward to meeting with them to finalise plans for Stage 2 of our sewerage upgrades.

The Committee of Management has continued to meet via Zoom to plan improvements etc.

The CoM has discussed the issue of fee reductions raised by several members. We feel at this time it is difficult to estimate or consider a fee discount or credit as we do not know the full extent and length of the closure.
The closure was directed by authorities and has also taken place during a time when, with the exception of Easter, the park would traditionally be very quiet. We are also mindful that we are a not-for-profit club and annual site holder fees are currently our only income with no casual camper fees being generated. Yet costs to run the park continue - utilities, lease payments, insurances, wages etc.
We have decided at this stage there will be no fee reduction and fees for the six months from July 2019-June 2020 will be due as scheduled on May 31, 2020. We will consider the situation again once the park has reopened and we know the true extent of the shutdown. Invoices will be sent out shortly. However, as always we are happy to speak to anyone facing hardship and set up a payment plan if required.

We hope everyone continues to stay safe and well.

Kind Regards
Committee of Management

PARK CLOSURE
Update: Friday March 27, 2020

Dear Members, Casual Campers and Visitors,

What a difference a few days can make. As you are aware the Victorian Government made the decision early Wesdnesday to close caravan parks and camping grounds by Wednesday March 25 at midnight giving us very little time to notify members. Thanks to our caretaker for her efforts to contact members to let them know of the update so they could visit their sites and pack up if possible.

Thanks to all those who were able to drop everything and make it up to the park at short notice. If you were unable to visit to empty your freezers etc and turn off power, gas and water please send the Committee of Management an email giving Sarah permission to visit your van and do this. Our aim is to switch everything off to reduce our costs as much as possible during this time.

Our resident caretaker will remain on site during the closure keeping an eye on things and maintaining the park and amenities so you can be assured it is still being managed while we are away and will be ready and waiting on our return.

Sadly our Question and Answer session this Sunday will have to be postponed for now. We will reschedule once this issue is behind us. However, if you ever have any questions or concerns you would like to raise with the committee you are always welcome to do so by emailing us at [email protected]

The Committee of Management will still be working away behind the scenes during the closure to keep the park ticking along and formalise plans for Stage 2 of the sewerage upgrade.

Thanks for your support and understanding during this challenging and unprecedented time. We will take things day by day and keep members informed of any updates.

Stay safe and healthy and we look forward to welcoming everyone back to Welshies as soon as possible.

Kind Regards

Committee of Management
Welshman's Reef Water Sports Club Inc.
Monday, March 23, 2020
Dear Members, Casual Campers and Visitors
Due to the developing situation with the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and from our consultation with Mount Alexander Shire Council and Goulburn Murray Water it is looking more and more likely that we will have to shut the park down in the interim.
We feel that given annual and visitor numbers, the joint use of amentities and a lack of access to sanitisers etc it would be in the best interests of the health and safety of our members and guests if we close the park.
Current restrictions mean many cannot travel from interstate and we feel further restrictions are inevitable and may see people forced to self isolate at home aside from trips to the shops etc for essentials.
The park is not a suitable place to self isolate due to the shared amenities etc.
At this stage we plan to close the park this Sunday, March 29 for a month and we will reassess the situation at that time.

In a bid to save our not-for-profit club extra power and water charges during the closure we urge members visit the park this week if possible and turn off their power, clean out any fridges and freezers and turn off water and gas bottles.

At this stage we plan to go ahead with Sunday's Q & A session unless restrictions in the interim make this impossible.
We are expecting a formal update from Goulburn Murray Water tomorrow and will send on this detailed update asap.
Thanks for your understanding and support at this very difficult time.
We hope your families remain safe and healthy and we look forward to welcoming everyone back to Welshies once this terrible time is behind us.
Kind Regards
Committee of Management

To All of our Members
It has come to the committee’s attention that there has been rumours and misconceptions of the management of the park, this has been causing anxiety and stress throughout the park and needs to be addressed for the health of all.
As the Committee of Management, we would like to invite all members to an informal Question & Answer session to advise you correctly and resolve any rumours or concerns  you may have.
The meeting is planned for Sunday March 29 at 10.30am -11.30am at the Old Kiosk in the middle of the park. All members are welcome.

Slider Bikes
The Committee or Management has received a number of complaints and concerns regarding the use of Slider Bikes in the park. These concerns relate to noise and safety issues. As a result we ask that Slider Bikes are only used in daylight hours. Helmets should be worn at all times and pre-school children should be supervised by an adult. Flags are encouraged as they make the bikes easier to spot by reversing vehicles. The park speed limit should also be observed. Where possible please encourage your kids to ride in the vicinity of your camp to avoid disturbing the quiet enjoyment of other campers or encourage them to ride down on the basketball court. No slider bikes are to be ridden after dark as they are hard to see in daylight hours and harder to spot at night. Thanks for your cooperation.

Parking
We ask members and visitors not to park in front of our fire tanks as they must be accessible at all times. We also urge you not to park on casual sites. We are expecting quite a few campers in the coming weeks and sites need to be clear for their arrival. Please park in the boat ramp if there is no room at your site and remember there is a two vehicle limit at each site. All roads should be clear to allow emergency access.

Keypad
We ask parents to ensure their kids don’t play with the gate keypad. We have had a few annuals and visitors unable to exit the park as their code has been inadvertently punched in.

Power outages
Unfortunately we have had a number of incidents where annual’s have had their power leads unplugged and their frozen food has been spoiled. We urge members and visitors not to use other site’s plugs and if you do to replace them immediately. We have also experienced numerous power outages in recent months and urge members to avoid leaving large amount of food in their freezers in case it spoils. A good practice is to leave a frozen glass of water with a coin on top in your freezer. If it has dropped to the bottom your food may have defrosted and it may be safer to throw it out. However if you can empty and turn your fridge off when you leave.

Sewerage upgrade
We have recently submitted our water meter data to Goulburn Murray Water and we hope to meet with them and council shortly to finalise our plans for Stage 2 of the sewerage upgrades.
In the meantime we plan to do some renovation works to benchtops in our amenities and improve lighting in the Smurf Toilets and upgrade tiling so stay tuned.
We also plan to improve signage on the foreshore. Just a reminder as we enter the holidays that boats should not be moored within 50 metres of the boat ramp, the use of tyres is discouraged and all marquees should be removed when leaving the park.

Thanks for all your support.

Annual General Meeting (AGM)
Sunday 22nd October, 2017

nToday our Club held its fourth Annual General Meeting (AGM). The meeting was attended by approximately 30 of our annual site holders under the protection of the Caretaker's carport. The AGM was an opportunity to advise the Members of the progress of the Park and the achievements so far. It was also the time for the old Committee of Management to stand down and elect a new one. It was then followed by a BBQ of hamburgers and sausages from the Maldon butcher, once again grilled to perfection by Mark.

Deb Rayner outlined the progress of the Social Club and indicated where funds might be directed in the future plans.

Thanks was given to the many people who have helped along the way, including Dave Anderson, Lynal Bastin, Mark Brumby and the retiring President Anthony Griffiths. A special thanks was also given to Christie Griffiths for her role as retiring Secretary.

A successful Social Club Sausage Sizzle at Bunnings - Kangaroo Flat - Bendigo - 4th December 2016

Our social committee held their sausage sizzle fundraiser at the Kangaroo Flat, Bunning's store on Sunday. They raised a huge total of $1060.00 plus an unknown amount of donations went into the tin on the day. What a fantastic effort by all involved.

Annual General Meeting (AGM)
Saturday 12th November, 2016

Today our Club held its third Annual General Meeting (AGM). The meeting was attended by approximately 40 of our annual site holders as we were buffeted by gale force winds protected only by the Caretaker's carport. The AGM was followed by a BBQ of fabulous hamburgers and sausages from the Newstead butcher and chatting around a glowing fire pit thanks to Mark. We were reminded that just over 2 years ago, almost to the day, GMW had ordered the closure of the Park and Site holders asked to vacate.
We were advised by the out going Committee of Management that our Club had spent more money upgrading the Park over the last 26 months than had been spent by GMW or the Shire over the last 20 odd years.

The AGM was a great opportunity to acknowledge how far we have come in the last 26 months and to briefly outline some of the work required from here on. Thanks was also given to the many people who have helped along the way.

Our Committee for the next 12 months was nominated and is comprised of:

President: Anthony Griffiths                                Committee: OH&S Simone McKinlay
Vice President: Simone McKinlay          Assistant Secretary: Renee Whatley
Secretary: Christie Griffiths                                                  Lisa Farrugia and Wayne Young
Treasurer: Tony Knight                                Publicity Officer: Lisa Dennis

Welcome back to our existing Committee Members and a special new welcome to Renee and Wayne who are joining the Committee of Management for the first time.

Bring on Summer!
The moment we have all been dreaming of - the Lake is now full!!
It only took two days to go from 50% to 95%. This photo (kindly shared by Deanne) was taken Wednesday the 14th September after the area received over 100ml of rain!
The graph to the right shows the comparison to 2010 which is the last time the lake filled so quickly! Seems September is a good month for rain!

Picture
Let the fun begin...
Water levels have now hit the magic 50%!!!
This is a huge milestone as it now means that we can get the ski boats back on the Lake!
If you haven't already done so, now is a good time to call our caretaker Mark to book your sites for Summer - 5476 2378. It will be so good to see our park up and running in all its glory this summer!

Picture
Water, Water, Water!!
August was a fantastic month with a rise of 17% in the water levels!
Get your boats ready, summer is looking very promising!

Kiosk Upgrades

Our Social Club have been working hard behind the scenes to raise money to undertake some mini projects around the park. One such project is to make improvements to the area outside the kiosk.

The old bark chip and ragged garden were removed to make it compliant with our Fire Upgrades and a new concrete slab has been poured, cut and colored.

Next will be the building of rock-mesh walls, some new seating and possibly some shade cover down the track.

A huge thank you to Deb and Simone who have been the driving force behind this project, and to everyone who has helped out in getting the job done.

Special thanks goes to Mark Brumby who has donated materials and his time to get this job done. We are so happy with the work and cannot recommend Mark highly enough to anyone needing concreting done!
Stay tuned to see how this area turns out!

Fill 'er Up!

Picture
It is great to see the difference in water levels in just over 1 week (8 days!). The water is about 50m from the bottom of the ramp now.

The creeks and rivers leading to the lake are still flowing and it's raining again now which means the levels will continue to rise! Yay!!

We have been told 50% is a ski-able level - let's hope we reach that soon!
Picture

All Clear!

Picture
Fantastic news - according to the Goulburn-Murray Water website the Blue Green Algae alert has been lifted from Cairn Curran Reservoir!
This, coupled with the rising water levels over the last 4 weeks mean things are definitely looking up for our beloved park!

Rain, Rain, Glorious Rain...

Picture
We have been lucky enough to see consistent rain for most of today with some places in the region getting as much as 15ml.

The water levels of the lake have increased for the last three weeks and with more rain predicted for the end of this week, things are looking good! : )

Picture

What a life!

As the weather turns colder what a perfect opportunity to sit by the campfire with a camp oven roast cooking away and watching our magnificent sunsets.
Thanks Deanne for sharing your amazing night with us, I know I for one am very jealous!!

Fundraising Success!

Wow!!! Words cannot describe just how amazed we are with the result of our very first social fundraising event which was held on Saturday night at The Crown Hotel, Newstead. We decided to make it a Royal theme which we thought very fitting because of the name of the venue we held it at. Many people dressed up which was amazing to see and the feedback has been extremely encouraging. Everyone had a great time. The night involved an update on the park progress from our President Anthony Griffiths followed by a buffet Roast, Royal Trivia Quiz, door prizes, Wood Raffle draw and we had a spot raffle on the night to win a 25kg bag of laundry detergent, lucky chair prizes, silent auction for 2 Wills and a memorabilia auction. We even had a four horse race to finish the night.  The result was astounding, we raised a grand total of $2,264.00 for our club. Well done and thank you to everyone who helped in some way and to all the members that attended to make the event such a huge success. We will definitely be having more functions like this in the future.

The prize winners were:

Wood raffle 1: Dawn Novak, 2: Lou Smith, 3: Dawn Novak
Laundry Powder: Simone McKinlay.
Royal Trivia: Kelli Johnston.
Silent Auction: Michelle Aldridge (Will 1) and Lisa Farrugia (Will 2)

The breakdown of the fundraising is as follows:
Meal ticket sales $410.00
Wood Raffle Ticket sales $1,071.00
Laundry Powder raffle ticket sales $80.00
Silent Auction of the 2 Wills $230.00
Memorabilia Auction $165.00
Bus ticket sales $33 after expenses taken out
Last but not least the 4 horse race $275

Total amount raised: $2,264.00

We would like to thank the following people and businesses for their very kind and generous donations of prizes for the night:
Hal Curwen Walker, Samantha McKinlay, Simone & Robert McKinlay, Rob & Diane Spurway, Simone McKinlays mum and dad, CBA c/o Stuart Rayner, First National Rayner Bacchus Marsh c/o Debra Rayner, Sandhurst Cleaning Supplies c/o Anthony & Christie Griffiths.
We also need to thank Phil and Jill Reece for allowing our members to cut wood on their property for our raffle. Without this act of generosity our grand total would be halved.

Once again a huge Thank you to everyone who helped to make this such a fantastic and successful night. You all should be so proud of yourselves.
Here's to the next event!!

The Committee would also like say a huge thank you to Deb Rayner and Simone McKinlay who put a huge amount of time and effort into organising this event. Your efforts are very much appreciated by all of us.

Fundraising Ventures!

We are very excited to announce that we have two fundraising ventures going at the park at the moment.

The first is a meal and night of entertainment at one of our local pubs - The Newstead Crown Hotel. This will take place on Saturday the 21st of May. Please see the flyer for more information.  ---->

The second is a raffle with 3 chances to win a trailer load of wood. The tickets are available for sale from the park and are $2 each or 3 for $5. This will be drawn on Saturday the 21st of May.

Please help our park by supporting these fundraising ventures.

Easter 2016!
Picture
What an action packed weekend it was at Welshies. We had many of our sites booked by casual campers and a lot of annuals made the most of the beautiful weather and long weekend as well. It was fabulous to see life back in the Park after what has been a quiet few months.

It was especially wonderful to see all the families and the different ways the children were able to entertain themselves.

We had children on bikes and scooters, drawing with chalk on the roads, and playing old fashioned games like quoits and hopscotch. Not to mention the old favourites such as Chasey and Hide and Seek.

Good Friday Appeal
Thank you to the Newstead CFA who called through the Park collecting for the Royal Children's Hospital Good Friday Appeal. Those in the park at the time gave generously and helped the CFA beat last years total with an excess of $2500 collected in the local area. Well done everyone!

Easter Egg Hunt
A huge thank you to Tony and family for organising our Annual Easter Egg Hunt on Sunday morning. The hunt kicked off at 9am and the squeals and shouts of the children as they found the eggs was just wonderful to hear.
It was a great way to kick off a beautiful day.

Fundraising Update

Picture
The busy park over the Easter Weekend was a great opportunity to promote some of our Fundraisers. We managed to sell the last of our Cadbury Chocolates, which will give us an easy profit of just over $320. Thank you Deb for taking this one on.

We also have some Stubby Holders for sale for just $10. Two of our annual's businesses have very generously organised and funded an order of Stubby Holders to sell. As they have donated these stubby holders, all money raised will go to the Club. This will be a donation of $1250!

A huge thank you to Spa Country Electrical and Mark Brumby Bricklaying and Concreting for this donation, to those who went around selling them and to those who have bought one (or five!).

Easter at Welshies!

With Easter just around the corner why not come along and join in our Annual Easter Egg Hunt which will take place on Sunday March 27th.

The Egg Hunt will be held outside the old kiosk and will kick off at 9am.

All ages are welcome and children will need to bring along their own basket.

We will also be having the Newstead CFA collecting for the Royal Children's Hospital Good Friday appeal on Friday March the 25th. Please help us support this very worthy cause.

Last year our region raised $1945 and it would be great to see if we can beat that this year!

Merry Christmas!

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a Safe and Happy New Year.

We have had another amazing year, with so much work being done to improve our park.
This would not be possible without the support of our members, guests and their families so Thank You!

We are looking forward to what 2016 will bring with lot of work planned to improve our little piece of paradise.

Stay tuned and keep up the hard work!

Your Committee of Management.

Associative Membership!
Would you like to become a member of our club without having to purchase a van?

We now have an Associative Membership option.

This is perfect for those who would like yearly access to the park without having to pay the daily boat ramp fee.

It is also another very valuable source of income for our club, which is important as we are now heading into our major upgrade, which is to upgrade our sewage system.

For more information please email the Committee: [email protected] or download the Application Form from our web site under Documents.

Annual General Meeting (AGM)
Sunday 11th October, 2015

Today our club held its first Annual General Meeting (AGM). The meeting was attended by approximately 50 of our annual site holders and we were fortunate to have the Mount Alexander Shire Council Mayor, Christine Henderson chair the meeting and Councillor Sharon Telford (Tarrengower Ward) also attend. Thank you to both ladies for giving up your time on a Sunday to support our Club.

The AGM was a great opportunity to acknowledge how far we have come in the last 15 months (yes it has only been that long!!) and to briefly outline some of the work required from here on. Thanks was also given to the many people who have helped along the way.

Our Committee for the next 12 months was nominated and is comprised of:
President: Anthony Griffith                                Committee: Simone McKinlay

Working Bee Success
Today was a very successful start to our working bee weekend with all 14 fire reel poles being cemented in, countless piles of leaves (including the big pile) being burnt as well as some of the timber barriers around the tanks being put into place. Lots of very busy workers all over the park.
To top off a fantastic day we had a phenomenal sunset (the photos really don't do it justice) and a roaring bonfire to sit around and toast our hard work.
A huge thank you to everyone who was on board helping out today, especially Jason who was able to help out with some of the big jobs with an excavator.

Working Bee This Weekend!
This weekend, Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th we will be holding a working bee at the club.
If anyone is available, we would appreciate your help.
The main jobs include:
* Cementing in the new fire reel poles around the park;
* Burning the leaf pile up the back (if anyone has anything else to burn they are welcome
to add it to the pile);
* Cleaning up the back corner of the park;
* Other small jobs that may come up on the day.
This will be a good opportunity to get to know other members of the club and for those who are interested, a chance to view some of the vans currently for sale.
We hope to see you there!!

We have Fire Tanks!
All 6 of our 45,000ltr Water Tanks have been delivered and put into place. The tanks look great, they blend in really nicely.
Not only that, we now have the knowledge that our park is well on the way to being a much safer place to be in the fire season.
Thank you to everyone who has been on hand to help with the delivery of the tanks, and everyone who has been involved in getting to this stage.

Extension of our Lease!
We are very pleased to announce that Goulburn-Murray Water has granted the Committee of Management an extension of our current lease. We have now been granted a 2 year lease from the 1st of July, 2015 to the 30th of June, 2017.

A representative from GMW said that we had "exceeded expectations!".

Congratulations to everyone involved. This would not have been possible without the tireless work of not only the committee, but everyone involved - annual site holders, campers, day visitors, our local communities, Facebook followers, everyone!

We thank you very much and look forward to a long partnership with you all! Stay tuned as we have no intention of stopping here!!

Fire Upgrades
We are very pleased to announce that our Fire Upgrades have commenced. We have had GM Excavations on site with Dave Anderson Plumbing preparing the sites of the 45,000ltr water tanks. The installation of these tanks is the first vital step in ensuring we are meeting the CFA requirements and can remain open. Thank you to our Action Team who have got us to this stage.

Happy Easter Everyone

What a wonderful week it has been. We hope everyone enjoyed their Easter break and would like to say thank you to all of those who were at the park. We hope you enjoyed your stay and look forward to having you all come back another time.

Easter Egg Hunt
This weekend we held our first ever "Welshies Easter Egg Hunt"!
The children met at 8am and raced around the park to find as many eggs as they could!
A big thank you to our President, Tony Knight, for hiding the Easter eggs.
It was wonderful to see all the children smiling and laughing as they ran around the park.

Good Friday Appeal
Chris Simmins, Area manager for the local Royal Children's Hospital Good Friday Appeal reported that an impressive $1945 was raised in the Newstead and District region. A big thank you to all of the park patrons who contributed to this total by donating to this very worthy cause!!
